Default Sore left hip from sleeping position

    HI ladies,

I'm 20 weeks and just wondering if anyone has ideas on getting the right sleeping position on the left side? I'm finding the last two weeks that I'll wake up in the middle of the night with a sore left hip/thigh and sometimes leg because of having to sleep on that side. I usually put a pillow between my knees but doesn't really seem to help lately. Any suggestions

    Thanks
    ME DH

Try a body pillow and sleeping half on top of it, either around your bump and between your boobs IYKWIM or behind your back

There is a product called 'egg shell foam' which you can buy as an underlay for your bed. It will soften the area you lay on and create less pressure points. It's used widely in hospitals and nursing homes as part of pressure care. Places like target, kmart, I think Big W and maybe Harris Scarfe sell it. I had sore hips too when pregnant, and it was just from sleeping on them, even though I switched sides fairly often, I didn't really find much that helped.

    Hi Neet,
Are u sleeping on your side coz you've heard that you HAVE to? Or is that how you usually sleep?
The reason I ask, when I was pregnant, I was constantly rolling over on my stomach and freaking out about it coz it's bad for the baby. Spoke to my OBGYN about it who told me it's fine as long as I am comfortable and there will come a time where I just won't be able to anymore...and sure enough, that time came

    I rotate all night long...one side.....other side.....and back LOL

Don't force yourself to sleep in only one position, particularly if it hurts!! Just move around to keep yourself comfortable, and if you wake and find yourself flat on your back and its not comfy, then roll onto your side.

My understanding is lying on your left side gives optimal blood supply to uterus, but lying other ways here and there is so very unlikely to do any damage, so don't beat yourself up!

At the end of mt previous pregnancies I found there is no comfy spot anywhere, very sore hips, and I end up sleeping with an assortment of pillows, one under my bump, one between my ankles, one between the knees and one behind my back, and kind of cuddling another in front LOL, and waking up every 20-30 mins to switch sides (including rearranging all the pillows) so I guess my point is this - get comfy where you can now, and don't make yourself sleep in a position that causes you pain.

OMG Neet, I could have written your post....like PP said, I just alternate when i wake from left to right...but I usually spend most time on my right side....I have a body pillow which helps significantly, I cannot sleep on my back, it makes me sick, it also slows blood flow through the vena cava vein to the baby so is a no no anyway....it also doesn't help when I have an almost 3 year old in our bed from about 3am onwards, very uncomfortable!
So in short...I have no real advice lol, but I hope you can get some relief!

LOL Miranda! Thanks for the ideas ladies. Sleeping on the left side cos I'm 'suppose to but lately I flip to my right side just to give the left a break. I'm usually a back sleeper so I do still find I occasionally wake up and go whoops! Or DH nudges me in the middle of the night and whispers "don't sleep on your back babe". It's not that comfortable anymore anyways. I think I've got to get a body pillow and if that doesn't work the foam sounds great. Will keep an eye out for it
