Default Old wives tale about height?

    Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone knows what the old wives tale about height is? Something about doubling their height at 2 years will equal their adult height?

    Question growth charts

    Natsean

Yep thats it, my uncle tried it with his two daughters now 19 and 22 and it worked... I hope it is not true as my eldest DD will be 6 foot tall... If you look on growth charts in baby health book it seems about right.

Im 6 foot tall and love it!

I do not think it works...... I have been asking about this for a while! Every website I have looked at says different things too.

I am 6ft and DH is 6'8 and DS just turned 2 and if we double his height he will only be about 6'2 or 6'3...

No chance of that happening!!! We think he will ATLEAST be a bit taller then his Dad and Im sure my girls will be taller then me...

The more accurate test is to get their bone in their hand or wrist I can't remember, measured and they can tell approx from that I think..... not sure how it is done....

Girls are half their adult height between the ages of 18months and 2 yrs, boys between 2 yrs and 2 1/2 yrs. It's not strictly accurate but it gives an estimation of adult height.

Ah, it makes sense that boys would need to be older as they develop more slowly until puberty.

At 17 months DD is 2 ft 7 so I think she is also going to be tall. Her great great great grandad was in the Guiness book of world records for being the tallest man in England at the time - something like 8 ft tall.

    Yikes....

Hopefully my shorty genes will slow her down a bit.

When I take DD to the MCHN she says it is the head circumference which indicates height. By her calculations my DD is heading for a least 6 foot!

That will make her just taller than her dad, about 4 inches taller than me.

I have always heard of the double the 2 year old height. I had never heard of the head circumference thing.

From what I remember it is double at 2yo for boys, but girls it is a different age by a couple of months. Typical that I have girls and that's the bit I can't remember.

I am just hoping against hope that my DD will get some 'tall' genes from DH's family - I'm only 5 feet short and all my family including my dad are under 5 3" and I really really want DD to be at least average height. She is 19 months old and about 82cm's so hopefully she will be Guess we'll see in about 17 years time!!
