    Default smoke detector going off????

    HELP please

I am going crazy, our smoke detector has been going off and then stopping since 4am... Bub keeps getting woken up... It is hard wired in so not a battery problem, there is NO smoke anywhere???? Any ideas... I will ring the real estate at 9am but there is no electrician who will be in town.... they do not visit until they have a full day of jobs usually a 2-3 week wait??? I can not work out how to switch it off even???

The nearest shopping centre is 150km away and too hot to go out for the day....

Is it going off as in smoke or just beeping loudly? It could be the battery is running out. I found that with ours and it drove me insane. But it was in a townhouse and we had to get a ladder and get DF to get up there to change it - was way too high for me

I'd ring the real estate regardless. Its not your problem the electrician only comes in every few weeks. Your house has to be livable, and a smoke detector continuously going off is not livable. ring them and let them sort it!

can't they get it fixed asap rather than cutting the wires - all sorts of horrible things ran through my head when you mentioned they would cut the wires - who knows how long you will have to live without it - esp if you are waiting on a real estate agent to pull their finger out and get it repaired.

Besides isnt it illegal not to have a working fire detector in rental properties??? I would request (actually demand) a temporary battery operated one to be installed whist you await it being fixed - beter to be safe than sorry!!

Thanks for your concern and having been a city girl most of my life I would agree having lived in the bush for two years you realise that in a small town a long way from big centres you have to wait for things to be done. Our real estate agent does their best but they can not make tradesman appear.. Having said that I was very lucky today as a an electrician was in town today so all fixed and replaced

Yes it is illegal and I would have got a battery one if it was not replaced today..
