Default Bad flaking/peeling skin on toddler

My 2 year old son has very bad dry, flaking and peeling skin on the bottom of his feet. At first I thought it was just from having open toe sandals on, and walking around bare feet from the dry weather. But now he has it on both thumbs, so now I am worried that it will just spread everywhere. It is really thick skin, that is just peeling and flaking, not at all like sunburn skin that sort of comes off in bits - this is really chunky!

I had a quick search on the internet, and think it may be Athletes Foot, but was after anyone else who has experienced this before.

If it still spreads I will certainly take him to the doctor, but for now I have just been applying a lot of Sorbolene and moisturisers that just don't seem to doing much at all.

    Please help!

My daughter had skin problems....really not like your son but I thought I'd just say that I found pharmacists much more knowledgeable than doctors about these sorts of things. Maybe take your son to your nearest chemist and request to speak to one? However, see your GP if you are really concerned.

    Regards,

    Kylie.

hello, funnily enough we recently encountered the same problem, which ended with our 4 year old having his whole hands peeling, leaving huge red and sensitive skin underneath. We also tried moisturisers without much luck, however we started using Dermaveen (a formulated dermatitis cream) twice a day on him and about a week later we could definitely see improvement. If you are concerned see your GP, but otherwise, maybe Dermaveen is worth a try? Either way good luck with it.

    Hi Renmark,

I'm a teacher and a few years back I had a boy in my Kindergarten class who had a skin condition which only affected the palms of his hands and the soles of his feet. He literally had layers of skin peeling off to leave red raw flesh. It looked so painful and I felt really sorry for him. His Dad came and saw me about it, he had it too, and I was given some special cream for the boy to apply during the day on the days it was particularly bad. I really hope your little boy doesn't have this (I can't remember what it was called). Maybe a trip to the doc and a referral to a specialist would be a good idea?

    Good luck!!

Hi to everyone and thank you all for your ideas and support. We have decided to take him to the doctor this morning. We feel that if we leave it too long, it may just get worse, so am going with my gut instincts on this one.

I will let you all know how we went later...... But thank you to you all for you advice. It was all taken on board!
