    Hi there everyone,

I hope you don't mind if I just jump in and start the new parents thread. We have a few new Mums now and I'd love to hear how they're going with the early days. It's almost April too!

I might put in a few questions to get the ball rolling, if that's okay

How old is your little one now?

How do you feel you're coping with the early days of being a new Mum (or being a new Mum of one more!)?

Do you have supportive people helping you at the moment?

Is there anything that's causing you particular stress or worry at the moment? (and can any of us help?)

How is feeding going? Are you breastfeeding/ bottle feeding/ a little of both?

What can you tell so far about the character of your new little son/daughter?

Sorry about the heaps of questions- I'd love to know how you're all doing. Looking forward to catching up with you very soon.

Big hugs to all the new Mums and babies!
    Amy

Well now all of our babies are here, its time to get this thread cracking !

    Abigail Amanda - Born 3rd April 2010 at 36+4 weeks; 5lbs 15oz, 45cm long!

Would be interesting to put everyone's gestation next to it since so many made an early appearance!

How old is your little one now?
    5 weeks + 3days

How do you feel you're coping with the early days of being a new Mum (or being a new Mum of one more!)?
I think I have coped pretty well. I am luckily getting still a fair bit of sleep. Little miss has only been waking me once a night now for the last week pretty much. Pretty lucky there. As all of us do, I have moments where I am feeling pretty down in the dumps, but think that is just hormones!

It still doesnt feel real, and sometimes I do feel "disconnected" from the whole situation!

Do you have supportive people helping you at the moment?

My DH had the first 3 weeks off and that was great! It was nice just having some company My MIL is around the corner if I ever need something. And I come into my parents a few days a week to do some work for dad, and Mum helps babysit if Abi doesnt settle.

Is there anything that's causing you particular stress or worry at the moment? (and can any of us help?)

Just feeling pretty run down, and hectic. Like Im trying to be, and people expect me to be superwoman. I am trying to be mum, wife and employee (although its for my dad), and sometimes I just dont know what to do. I dont have time to scratch myself, and I know some people dont whether they work or not, but I just feel like all aspects are suffering cause I am not able to do all 3.

How is feeding going? Are you breastfeeding/ bottle feeding/ a little of both?

Feeding is going pretty well. We started with bottle, then shield in hospital. And the last week we have been weaning off the sheild. I use it in the middle of the night still, as she can drink easier without it. During the day we are basically 100% without the shield, unless I am extremely full and rock hard and she cant attach at first, but I can ditch it after my boob softens!!!

I express the opposite side to what she feeds of a morning most of the time, and we have that in the freezer for when I am admittedly "over it" during her cluster feed/unsettled period and DH gives her a bottle. Also, if we are going somewhere like to the shops, I express before we go, and take that with (as it can sit at room temperature for 6-8hrs) cos its a lot easier to give her a bottle if she gets unsettled or wakes before we get home, then brave breastfeeding out yet!! Im sure I will get brave enough one day...Not sure how festy the parent rooms are at the shops near us......

What can you tell so far about the character of your new little son/daughter?

She is very peaceful and content - except when she has wind!!! She likes her tucker She loves music and us singing to her. She also loves the outdoors and sunshine!

She likes being free in that she doesnt like to be tightly wrapped, and she needs to have her arms out and up near her face - but we arent surprised cos in later ultrasounds she had her hand near her face all the time!

Have they reached any milestones - and what?

No smiles yet but she rolled over at 3weeks + 2 !!! From belly to back..>At first thought it was a fluke, but she does it all the time now with ease.

    She has fantastic head control.

Woohoo- we have graduated to the parents threads!

How old is your little one now?
    3 weeks and one day

How do you feel you're coping with the early days of being a new Mum (or being a new Mum of one more!)?
Pretty well I think. If I just had Miss Evie and no toddler to deal with, this would be a dream! Being a Mum of 2 is very busy (why do they always go through needy patches at the same time??) but it's wonderful to actually enjoy the newborn phase this time. I'm getting good amounts of sleep, which as Alfie said helps soo much.

Do you have supportive people helping you at the moment?
MIL went home last week so it's just DH and I- actually it's nice just settling in to being a family of 4 now. DH is working from home on Mon and Tues (non-toddler child care days) which is a huge help. Actually not sure how I'd cope without him just yet- but I'm sure I'll manage when the time comes.

Is there anything that's causing you particular stress or worry at the moment? (and can any of us help?)
Alfie that is amazing you're working as well as all of this- I'm impressed! In any spare time I have (like when they're both asleep). I just try and keep the house running- or at least out of chaos!
I'd have to say managing toddler and newborn simultaneously during the high activity times of brekky, arvo nap time and dinner-bath-bed time is my biggest challenge. I just haven't found out how to do it solo really. They just seem to be needy at the same time and it gets a bit nuts. Am going to try a few new strategies that might help- getting an auto swing/bouncer thing second hand and possibly working on a new sling style that hopefully Evie will like so I can get dinner (just for toddler!) ready... So far I'm just preparing anything that can be prepared with one hand while settling/breastfeeding Evie in the other. Not many good dinner options there really!

How is feeding going? Are you breastfeeding/ bottle feeding/ a little of both?
Well done Alfie on weaning off the shield! No easy feat! Feeding (boob) is going well for us. Much better supply than last time, which I put down to early nifedipine treatment. Evie quite often chokes on the flow, poor thing. But she loves her tucker! Sometimes blocked ducts cause an issue, but I hope things will stabilise soon.

What can you tell so far about the character of your new little son/daughter?
Very mellow and easygoing, unless hungry- in which case she gets very insistant! Loves looking at you in her alert patches. Loves food and sleep. And massages in the sun and a pram ride. Doesn't like Mummy stopping at traffic lights when driving in the car!

Have they reached any milestones - and what?
No smiles here either, but I hear normal is anywhere up to 8 weeks (or was it 10?). Evie is getting good head control too. Not even thinking of rolling- but is rarely left on the mat really. She prefers being in arms, on the boob, or wrapped for sleeping lol!

Ooh, better go, almost time for bed (yay!)

big hugs all, looking forward to seeing you in here
    Amy

ps. Please can you forward all your baby's birth details so I can put them in the front page? Saves me going back through the old threads!! taa

Hi everyone, can i join your April parents group??

Leo Alexander was born 26th of April at 39+6, 4.61kgs, 54 cm long and 38.5cm head

How old is your little one now? Leo is a little over 2 weeks now

How do you feel you're coping with the early days of being a new Mum (or being a new Mum of one more!)? Soooo much better than the first time around! The hardest thing is 3 year old DD, who is a little put out that she no longer has 100% attention anymore. She has become very very whingey/stroppy so i am trying to give her lots of special time. Tomorrow i am going to leave the baby with DB and take her somewhere for a couple of hours for a special mummy treat.

Do you have supportive people helping you at the moment? No, its just the 4 of us. DF's dad is in hospital at the moment, and my parents are very busy with work so haven't been around much. My sisters husband also left her the day Leo was born... Gee, when you add it all up like this, things aren't great at the moment! We are coping fine though, we have always preferred doing things on our own and our own way.

Is there anything that's causing you particular stress or worry at the moment? (and can any of us help?) Nope, except Leo is not attaching well to my right breast and it is getting painful!

How is feeding going? Are you breastfeeding/ bottle feeding/ a little of both? I am breastfeeding and apart from the right (.)(.) being sore, all is going pretty well. Leo gained 700g in the 10 days since discharge, so i am pretty pleased with how he is doing. I remember crying at every single feed for the first 12 weeks with DD, but this time things seem to be a bit smoother.

What can you tell so far about the character of your new little son/daughter? He is the complete opposite of my DD, who was an angry little screaming ball during her first few months! Very nice to have someone so chilled out join our family, he loves sitting and listening to DF play the guitar to him, and prefers to stretch out and wiggle around over being held when he is awake. When he is asleep he loves to be cuddled tight, but is also just as happy in his bassinette (phew...DD still sleeps with us holding onto my arm)

I was just thinking this morning that we needed a new thread!

Great idea to start off with some questions!

Zahlee Ava was born on 26 March @ 37+4weeks weighing 7pd 1oz and 46cm long - via planned Csection

How old is your little one now?
She is 6 weeks and 5 days old

How do you feel you're coping with the early days of being a new Mum (or being a new Mum of one more!)?
Being a mum of 3 kids under 4 1/2 is bloody hard work! I think I'd rather them be triplets than the ages they are at! The older two are 4 and 2 1/2 and if they are not fighter they are whinging or being terrors.. So coping well just a little stressful at times!

Do you have supportive people helping you at the moment?
DH has been a great support thankfully! He's the rare type that cooks and cleans and is hands on.
I did have my mum here for a few weeks in the early days as I had a C/Section but she's gone back home now (Mid NSW) (I'm in Melbourne) and my MIL lives about 20 mins away... she works so really she's not too much help unfortunately.

Is there anything that's causing you particular stress or worry at the moment? (and can any of us help?)
I like this one! Yep can you all come over and deal with my older ones.. lol
Nothing anyone can help with but my darling family have all been unwell this week... eg: 2 with Gastro, One with flu and conjunctavitus and one constipated! FUN FUN! Zahlee is the constipated one and its hard knowing that I can't do much for the little princess... I've tried everything.. thinking of taking her to doctors today since its been 3 days since she's pooed and seems to be in pain constantly. AFM - Im a tad fluey but doing good.. no time for me to get sick!

How is feeding going? Are you breastfeeding/ bottle feeding/ a little of both?
I'm breastfeeding and topping up with a formula feed at night at about 1030pm, I need it for my sanity and it makes Zahlee sleep longer! She was feeding every 2 hrs during the night but as of last night... she went from 1030pm to 530am!!!!! OMG that was the longest sleep in so long! I feel refreshed almost!

I Breastfed my older two until 6 months and am already considering throwing in the breastfeeding towel with Zahlee... but I"ll give it a few more weeks and see how I go.. I can do it so I should do it, but I'm not sure how much longer I can do the every 2 or 3 hrs... I like the 4hr breaks!

What can you tell so far about the character of your new little son/daughter?

She's very demanding and no where nearlly as relaxed and chilled out as my other two! She's definately the Diva of the 3! She loves cuddles and hates to be put down but is very cute and favours her mummy at the moment! 9/10 she will only settle for me and no one else can settle her..

I have a question for you all as well..

What size clothes is bubba in now?

Zahlee is mostly in 000 but still fits some 0000

Big cuddles and smooches for your little ones!

Cheree, Leo is mostly in 000's but needs 00's for wondersuits. None of the 0000 clothes fit, and I optimistically took a few of the 00000 outfits DD wore in her first few weeks with me to the hospital...

Wow, 10.30 to 5.30am is awesome!! Lucky thing!

How old is your little one now? 4 weeks today

How do you feel you're coping with the early days of being a new Mum (or being a new Mum of one more!)? Fantastic! although i feel like my day is too short!

Do you have supportive people helping you at the moment? my husband is great... although it would help if he would clean up after himself!

Is there anything that's causing you particular stress or worry at the moment? (and can any of us help?) while feeding Samantha occasionally has a bit of a "quiver" in her jaw... not sure if its her or bubbles or similar caused by the shield we are using??

How is feeding going? Are you breastfeeding/ bottle feeding/ a little of both? a bit of both, 90% breast but with formular top ups (& like Alfie bottle if we are out... although mostly because she feeds for sooooooo long!). Im using a shield because apparently i have flat nipples and she has a small tongue, i have tried to go without it a couple of times but she doesnt recognize flesh it seems!! Alfie how did you get started weening her of it?

What can you tell so far about the character of your new little son/daughter? she is content and placid... unless she is hungry! my dad says she is a re-run of me!

we are still in 0000 bonds suits and have just out grown our first 00000 one piece... still tiny but certainly growing to quickly

    Hey there Mummies!!!!

Wow it seems like FOREVER since I've been on here. Life has been so crazily busy lately with trying to get into a routine with 2 kids and the never ending visitors a new baby brings. It's been so long I don't know where to start....?

I guess the labour. My hindwaters broke at 8pm on the 21st April so I thought maybe things would progress in the night, but nothing happened and of course DH and I were only semi sleeping 'just in case'. I had a doctors appt the following morning at 9am so went to that and my gp said because my waters had broken and nothing eventuating she thought it would be an idea to induce me to get things cranking as they don't like to leave you more than 24hrs with a leak. I was definately keen as DH and I were so ready for this baby to come. I got the drip put in at 1pm and didn't get any contractions until about 3.30ish, but really mild. Then at 4pm things just amped up and I was in full on labour with contractions on top of contraction and I needed to push at 5pm and my sweet little baby boy entered the world at 5.07pm and was put onto my chest and instantly started BF and had one eye open looking at me. I only used the gas for about 5 contractions and it wasn't helping so I tossed that away and did it all naturally. Brayden was 8lb 15oz and 51cm long and I was lucky to not get any tearing. It was an amazing and quick birth and everything I could have asked for.

Things are going really well at home. Jackson has been really good with Brayden and very helpful (a little too helpful sometimes), he has been a little challenging the last few days and I'm still trying to find my feet with managing 2 kids by myself. DH only had a week off as work is super busy atm. Brayden has been a gem, I barely know I've got him really. Now to answer the questions.

How old is your little one now? 3 weeks today!! My gosh time is flying by.

How do you feel like you're coping with the early days of being a new Mum (or being the new Mum of one more!)? I'm going pretty good, still trying to sort out my time better, the day just goes so quick and I find it really hard to get everything done. If I don't think about tea at lunch time it's a throw together meal and I haven't managed to get to the shops to buy milk and bread during the week like I used to, poor DH has been having to call into the shop on the way home from work a couple of times, but I LOVE online shopping, I get my groceries from woolies online and it's great!!

Is there anything that's causing you particular stress or worry at the moment? (and can any of us help?) No complaints from me really. Brayden sometimes had been doing big vomits after a feed, prob only once in a 24 hr period, but still makes me a little anxiuos because I know so many people that have babies with reflux or colic and I really don't want him to have anything. Clinic nurse said not to worry as it's only every now and then and he's not unsettled with it. I have noticed it seems to be whenever he's had too much milk.

How is feeding going? Are you breastfeeding/bottle feeding/ a little of both? I'm fully BF, he latched on at birth and has not looked back since. I have an abundance of milk and poor Brayden gets milk overload at feeds.

What can you tell so far about the character of your new litle son/daughter? Brayden is very placid and content!! So far has been an absolute dream, just like Jackson was. He's also a real snuggle bum but is happy to be in his bassinette as well.

He is in 000 bonds jumpsuits now, but 000 clothing is too big so I mainly keep him in the all in one's plus I love that they have the hand mits to keep his hands warm at night.

Alfie I think it was you that asked if I was dissapointed I didn't have a girl? I'm so rapt in my little man, I didn't feel any dissapointment, I think it helped that I didn't know what we were having so when he was born, as you know you instantly fall in love with them and you don't care what sex they are. Brayden also likes to have his arms out of the blanket like Abi, wiggles around until there free.

Welcome Sunshine82 and congrats on your little Leo!!

Hope all the new Mummies are going well and enjoying there little bundles. Wow this is a bit of a mammoth post....guess that's what happens when you don't get on here for so long. Hope to get on more now that things are slowly settling down.

Gibling- Brayden Cooper born on 22nd April @ 39weeks weighing 8lb 15oz and 51cm long
Big smooches to all the bubs.

    CJ and Brayden. x

    Hello Ladies!

Gibling - Can you add Tiaan to the list hun Thanks!

All is going well here now. We had another stay in hospy from Monday til today to sort out T's jaundice and non weight gain. Am happy to report at 3 weeks old she is finally above her birth weight! Jaundice is fading and feeding is going well. Have started Motilium to increase my supply, but she is still being topped up with formula for the moment. Hoping to cut that out soon (though won't be telling the CHN that! LOL) I just want her weight to stabilise first and we will see how we go. Other news is that she has Torticollis (stiff neck) and needs physio and also an u/s on possible clicky hips (the Paed says it's nothing serious, just a precaution). My screamy baby has disappeared and I have one lovely newborn on my hands... Very very happy with that (I hope I didn't just jinx myself!)

    Now to answer the questions!

How old is your little one now? Three weeks old today. How time flies!

How do you feel you're coping with the early days of being a new Mum (or being a new Mum of one more!)? Feel like I am doing well. I have DH home with me 24/7 though so that is a massive help.

Do you have supportive people helping you at the moment? Yep, my DH. My Mum has come to stay every second weekend for a few weeks too.

Is there anything that's causing you particular stress or worry at the moment? (and can any of us help?) Was abit stressed about the jaundice and non weight gain but am happy with where we are at ATM.

How is feeding going? Are you breastfeeding/ bottle feeding/ a little of both? T is currently BF with formula top ups. She has 15 mins on each breast then I make up a 60ml bottle and she has what she needs of that.

What can you tell so far about the character of your new little son/daughter? She is very laid back, like me I think. But she looks like her Daddy.

Hope everyone else is going well. I haven't read back... am meant to be paying bills... WHOOPS!
