    awww *hugs* MB

I'm really lucky, say 2.5 weeks out of 4, DD sleeps from 7pm to 7am. Its just those other 1.5 weeks she's up like 10 times a night, whether its teeth or stuffy nose, or just gosh knows what hehe.

AM planning on when it warms up putting the kid in the Kimono for a shot of it... heres hoping that plan actually works today hehe.

OKies, so not a very cooperative child, and the inability to stand unassisted for more then a few seconds hinders getting a good shot of the shirt. But here you go.

Been there before when I screwed things up
periodically i go off sewing and eventually go back to it in some form then I get the itch again
I find I get a bit lonely down there sewing alone

    finding a sewing buddy helps
I think i need to find a local new mum who sews to do a little tag team sewing

    Bootcamp went ok
we'll see how it goes over the next week

Nyssa - the photo is gorgeous - the top really does look fantastic! I am so glad that you couldnt find that darn dots for that pattern - i was really starting to worry. i am also a bit confused about the instructions for the bias binding, so i think i will make bias binding as i usually do and then maybe sew on the ties last.... how did you do it? And did you use ribbon or bias binding for the ties on the shoulder? But i am very inspired by the top you created!

Mummabear - damn about your sewing creations not working. it really is heart breaking when that happens. i went thru my little stash of material tonight and found a pair of pin whale cord pants that i had made for DD that didnt work... very frustrating

I'd love a sewing Buddy, bit far to drive to you though TG

Gracie; I used the Bias Binding for the internal tie, cause its less likely to come undone, but used ribbon for the neck/shoulder ones, Surreal loves to pull it undone though, so thinking that maybe it would have been better to have fake ties (ie; bows sewn on) with Snaps underneath or buttons or something, so that she couldn't undo it.....

I just threw the instructions away after cutting it out and getting confused, its really quite simple if you just think it through instead of trying to follow the instructions IMO.

I made it in a lovely cotton, but I'm thinking that it isn't really suitable for a crawler, its a bit stiff around her arms and stuff.. will give it a wash or two and see how it goes, but might be donating it to someone hehe.

That kimono top is just gorgeous!!

I'm procrastinating here. I SHOULD be putting ribbons onto another skirt, but surfing and eating chocolate seems like a much nicer option

I have a new project to start tomorrow though, so need to get through at least one of the skirts tonight. Tomorrow I need to start on a new costume. I'm replacing an existing one in the hope that we can make her look softer with a more dresslike flowy number. I'm hoping to make it a leotard...top section velvet, bottom spandex, with a double layered skirt falling from the princess line. One layer will be georgette, the other glittered chiffon, the skirt will be shaped to be shorter at the front and open so that we can still see her legs and body when she moves. I'll also be putting a sash around it and garnishing with just a teeny bit of rhinestone trimming. Oh...and it's all in a gorgeous baby blue

It shouldn't be too hard, just need to get moving on it. I'm looking forward to the end result, and so is she. I have about 3 weeks to do this...and I've committed to helping a friend with a couple of hers, one of those will involve me making another tutu I think :S

Anyways, best I get going, time ticks quickly!

    Hi guys
I went along to a machine knitting expo today ( it was just down the road luckily)
It was an interesting mix if ultra daggy stuff and some middle of the road a the odd bit I actually liked
since most knitting machines are not being made anymore it's either second hand ones of the one new machine which is a knocl-off of the Singers.
Mind you it's around $3.5 K for the computerized version so I'll be sticking with my 2nd hand manuals.
luckily they offer plenty of opportunity to play.

Most of the yarn the vendors had was pretty dodgy, thank goodness for the internet and my stash.
I had an impromptu lesson which was great.
Now i just have to get my machine working and find some time.

I have all this yummy ultrafine merino, cashmere, alpaca, possum and even yak MK yarn waiting to be turned into scrummy knitted creations.

just had a quick sweep around some of the blogs I used to love but haven;t had a chance to read in ages
found a great tutorial on why it is worth using a topstitch needle Pink Chalk Studio Blog Archive Why Use a Topstitching Needle?

One thing that really improved my sewing was using the right tools for the job and needles/thread play such an important role in sewing.
The good old universal 80 is a great needle but next time needles are on special grab a packet of jeans/topstitch and a set of ballpoint/jersey if you don't have them. You'll be surprised with the difference.
