Default Insect Bites and vomiting?

I just need to bounce this theory off someone, DP is working tonight.

Some sort of Bug or spider bit DS in his sleep last night. He has over 30 bites, most of which have a clear blister on top of a welt and one big welt, about 12cm across, which takes up the outside top of his thigh.

He was fine, clingy and drinking heaps, but fine all day until about 3pm when he refused to wear a nappy, fair enough it's hot and it rubbed on the ones on his back. Then 5pm he stopped asking for food. He refused dinner at 6pm and then chucked once, but hugely, about 6:30.
I stuck him straight into a cool bath, and he's since gone to bed with some cool water, panadol and half a tube of savlon since the soov is mysteriously missing! He said it hurts when asked but couldn't tell me where.

So my theory is, it's hot and sticky and he's just reached saturation point with all the insect venom in his system. He does welt easily with just mozzies, so if this was more than a mozzie, his poor little body is in overload. Sound about right?

L recently got bitten a few times by we dont know what.
red mark, with a blister on it. like chicken pox almost.
that night he vomited violently.
he had the runs for a few days afterwards, i thought maybe the same thing as you. he's perfectly fine now, they look more like mozzy bites now that the blisters are subsiding.

Sounds plausible (really I have no idea but you sold me on it!)

It's also possible he has a bit too much histamine in his body too and is making him sick, which will need something.

Hope it's just the heat and he's better quickly

Nae, could it be shingles? It sounded like it to me, especially with the welt.

I'd get it checked by the doc, since if it is shingles (chicken pox in a nerve pathway) it is BLOODY painful and makes you feel really sick. And there is a window of only a few days to start anti-virals if that is the prescribed treatment.

If it is "just" insect bites, could you try an anti-histamine to help him out? Dimetapp or similar?

Poor little man. I hope he is better soon.

Could it be hives rather than bites I suffered dreadfully as a child

Hives Pictures - Hives Pictures and Information

a cool bath with bicarb soda helped greatly and calamine lotion to stop the itching

I suffer hives myself, but they're definitely not hives.
I did try and get 5ml of phenergan into him but he wouldn't have a bar of it, only the panadol, which he recognises. I'll try him again with it in the morning.
The bad ones, about 6 or 7 of them, look like this with a clear blister on top http://z.about.com/d/firstaid/1/7/1/...arah_split.jpg but the rest look like standard red mozzie or sandfly bites with a clear, fluid filled blister on top.

Ange I do wonder since DD started kindy this week and he's not vaccinated but the rest of us are. I might call the sugery first thing since I'm almost out of phenergan anyway (which is for DD's allergies) Our doc is brilliant with kids and always listens to my suggestions, so I'll see what she thinks when she looks at them, though I'm fairly certain it's insect/spider bites. He's stayed asleep, covered in a light sheet, so that's a good sign, I'll keep checking on him anyway.

Thanks guys! It's a bit hard to get your throughts straight with no one to bounce them off!

Yeah I'm feeling awful for him Brooke, so I'm using the AC for only the 3rd this time this summer. His window being open last night was how the bugs got in, I think. Can't wait to leave this house! gah!

It could be sand flies "midges" causing an allergic reaction, L was bitten by only one last week while sitting on the floor and she broke out in hives.

She also became very lethargic, vomited and then had the runs for a few days afterward. Now I'm assuming it was a sand fly because I saw one flying around...we don't have spiders in the house either as its been sprayed.

I gave her some claratyne and panadol - she slept through the night and woke up fine except for the runs......

Hope D is feeling better soon!!!!
