Default Zovirax and breastfeeding?

Does anyone know if its safe to use zovirax while breastfeeding - I seem to find conflicting info on this but really want to get rid of this elephant-sized lip.

ta, tulip

Hi Tulip,
Sorry I can't help you with the Zovirax question. All I know is you're not supposed to use it whilst pregnant so I assume you would not be using it while breastfeeding.

Can I suggest you try a zinc supplement? I have found this a much better and faster cure for cold sores than any of the creams. I get them often and I have tried the lot! I start taking zinc the minute I feel a cold sore coming on and they usually disappear very quickly or don't develop to their full blown potential.

Good luck, they are aweful

i actually decided to use it during pregnancy once - after reading the cautions i decided the amount used on a lip was minimal compared to taking a large dose which is what i think they are mostly cautioning about. That being said, if your cold sore has already developed, i think it will be too late for the zovirax!

Yep most of the vitamin brands make a zinc supplement. You can even get them at the supermarket.

Sometimes things you aren't able to use in pregnancy you are able to use while breastfeeding. I'd say just ask the chemist. They should be able to look it up and if you can't recommend anything available.
