Unhappy Really sore throat- maybe even ulcers? What can I do??

Hi,

I have had this sharp pain in the right side of my throat for about 3 weeks. It first started when we were away on holidays, but I had no other symptoms...it really just felt like maybe I had scratched my throat or had something stuck in there.
Some days it was bad than other days, and sometimes I could hardly feel it at all. Anyway the other night it got worse so I went to GP yesterday and he said he couldn't see anything and that it could be a little ulcer, and that it feels a lot bigger than what it is, and to come back if it doesn't go away The thing is I have already had this for at least 3 weeks.

Today it is worse...now my whole throat is sore when i swallow, not just the right hand side....and I am so positive I can see a few ulcers at the back on the right near the little dangly thing (sorry forgot what its name is ) The ulcers are quite big, but look clear not white, however DP had a look and he reckons he can't see anything!!???!!

Is there anything I can do to make the ulcers go away (if they are actually even there) or to help the sore throat??

I have no fever or no other symptoms at all. I have been doing warm water and salt gargle, and had a big spoonful of honey. I have no lemons otherwise i would do honey and lemon drink.

Thanks Manda xx I actually just see any GP that is available coz I don't normally need to see the doc much....however this one I have seen before and he is a bit of a tool. Might have to go back and see someone else, but was hoping to avoid yet another trip to the doctors!!!

LOL! Maybe go to the chemist and see if they have anything over the counter they can give you? I think there is a throat spray that numbs your throat. Not sure you can use it while UTD though.

Whenever i have had ulcers i gargle VERY salty water several times a day, and it goes away in a couple of days.
Worth a try...?
You could use bonjella to ease the pain while it clears up?
Hope you fell better soon!

ETA - I'm tired - i just reread you have already tried salt water gargle - could you make it saltier..?
Also whenever i have had a sore throat that is only on one side it has ended being my tonsils. Have you had tonsilitis in the past?

Thanks guys, might just keep up with the salt water gargle...but make it REALLY salty from now on

Nikkidun- Love the idea of the bonjella, but there is no way I could reach that far back in my throat....its right back near that little dangly thing, and on the side. Thanks for the tip about the really salty water...im going to just keep doing that.

Ooo forgot to add...no never had tonsilitis.

I know this sounds strange - are you a mouth breather???

And have you tried touching them with your clean finger???

Mouth breathing dries out the throat - terribly - and can cause major discomfort! I breathe through my mouth when I sleep - and sometimes - I have the same thing - and no amount of sprays, garlges or lozenges work - but as soon as I rub where its sore with my finger - it goes away.

If you can do it - with out throwing up or gagging until you pee a little! - you will get some relief from that!

pszi_1- I have been trying for the last few nights to breathe with my mouth closed. It is pretty red in there this morning, so i think it might be more than that now.
Thanks for the tip, will remember that for next time!!
