    Question water filtration

our tap water tastes like swamp and bottled water is too expensive so im looking at an alternative.

what filtration systems have you used?
    Is it expensive up front?
    is it expensive to maintain?
how much water does it hold?
    does it chill/ heat?

    TIA

We got a water purifyer a few years ago, made a HUGE difference to the taste of the water.

We went through pure water systems - HERE is there website.

I can't remember exactly what we paid upfront. But I do remember we paid it off over a few months.

Then we just have to change the filter once a year and they phone me when it's due to be done. They come out and do it for you. They have a range of different filters, the one we usually get is $119 but they do have some more and some less expensive. Although this one takes out quite a lot of crap.

Doesn't chill or heat - it's connected to the tap so just a small container on the bench and it just runs through your tap straight away (if that makes sense)

I do know this company does all sorts of different filters though.

    Hope that answers your questions!!

We just use the Brita system - it's fantastic. We used to used the jugs, but we reccently got the one that screws onto the tap and it's brilliant! They aren't very expensive, the water is much more palatable and the convenience of having filtered water coming out of your tap is fantastic.

I just bought a water filter with chiller, you know like the ones with big blue water bottles on top form Aldi for $119. I also got replacement filters that were @30 but last a year. I think its great, family loves it and my 2yr old DS has never drunk so much water.

I ended up getting a brita jug the other day and it seems ok but I have black sediment in the bottom of the jug. Does that go away ofter a while? The water tastes heaps better which is fantastic.

I do want to get a big free standing filter. We drink a lot of water and im refilling the jug several times a day atm.

Kimmey, where do you get the water for the filter from? Do you refill the bottle under a tap or do you buy specific bottles for it?

Nezz, Does the one that you have make any structural changes to the sink? or does it only connect to the tap? We are in rental housing so not allowed to do what I want to do.

We've got one similar to this - a Sunbeam water filter.

Ours was not quite that expensive but it is very similar and the same brand etc (just a different model). I think ours was around $170? We had one of their other water filters and it broke and I thought maybe we would just go back to tap water, but one day of drinking our tap water put me right off that - our tap water tastes disgusting (even when boiled)! I like the fact that our water filter gives you filtered water immediately - I don't have the patience for the 'dripping jugs'. You can choose to 'chill' the water too, but we only ever use that if we have a BBQ etc. We just turn it on when we want to fill up a jug, and then turn it straight off and put the jug in the fridge to minimise the electricity use (it isn't a big electricity user, we just like to save electricity where we can). I also like the fact that we just put tap water in - no paying for water bottles that are delivered.

I think the reservoir holds around 2L up top and in the chiller around 3L? I can't quite remember!

No structural changes. We also rent, it's just a free standing small cylinder that stands next to your sink and the little tube connects to you tap. Very easy to use.

I know the filter we get removes stuff like cryptosperidim (sp?) giardia and stuff like that from the water where other filters don't do that. So I actually just use the water out of the filter for my bubs rather than boiling it. So much easier!

Flame, its just tap water, there are 2 sections to it a top bowl and a bottom bowl, the filter is in the middle at the bottom of the top bowl and you just fill up the water and it filters through to the bottom bowl and then is chilled in the bottom section. The water tastes great too. I just get a big bowl or pot and fill it with tap water and pour into the filter.

This is a pic of it birthtalks ®
