He is in year 10 at school and doesnt have a clue what he wants to do, he never ever ever does his homework tells me he had none yet on his reports it always says homework is never completed. His grades are terrible yet he is not stupid, he KNOWS how to do the work he just refuses. (he is the same when it comes to chores at home but school worries me more) is it just a stage he is going through. My DD was never like this.

He has been his same gorgeous self at home and has even been extra good this week, we made dinner together the other night and we've been playing more it just seems to be at school that things have changed and I don't know what to do about it. He says he doesn't really know why just that he's getting annoyed. :032:

DD is 4.5 and will go to school term 2 next year. We have had her name on various waiting lists at different schools as we are not happy with our local school.

Anyway, we found out that the next closest school she could have a place there if she goes to kindy there, so she's been going one day a week. Then doing kindy 3 afternoons a week at her childcare which she loves.

So we were all set for her to go the this other school. Good points from my persepective is that we can walk there (20 minutes) so that next year I'll be able to put DS and bubs in the stroller and walk there and back. She'll have friends in the area. Already I feel that it is a community school and she's always seeing people she knows at our local shops.

I know it is not the best school, there are better ones, but I felt like the convenience factor would make up for that.

So, this morning I just got a call from a school in town saying they have a place for her! I haven't looked around as yet but I know for a fact that it is an excellent school which excels in literacy. There is a long waiting list and people travel from all around Adelaide to go there.

The downsides (it's all about me) is me having to drive into town every day. Normally this wouldn't be too much of an issue as both me and DH work in town, DH every day and me 3 days a week. So it would just be next year when I'm on maternity leave with a small baby that would be the issue - getting 3 kids out the house by 8.15am GULP!

Another downside is the lack of community and her having friends all around Adelaide. This is probably more of an issue for me as I'm assuming wherever she goes she will just think this is the norm.

Both schools are a similar size (350 to 400).

The town school appears to run a performing arts program, whereas the local school has no extra-curricular activites as far as I can see. The town school also seems to have modern facilities but I can't really comment as I haven't been there as yet. The school is Gilles Street Primary so if anyone has kids who go there I would love to hear from you!

I think basically it comes down to better education vs local convenience and friends in the area. On paper I think the better education should come first but I know it's not as black and white as that!

Can I get your feedback please.

Thanks ladies again!
