Hi My 7 month old usually happy boy, is very distressed and in discomfort. He has what I think is eczema. For about a month now, he has had itchy scaly skin on his ankles, behind his knees aounr his ears and neck. I use qv cream and derma veen eczema cream, which has helped but it's still there. But the problem is he has woken up after his sleep and it's all inflamed and red and he's really upset and trying to scratch. I have put mittens on him so he doesn't tear his skin off. : ( Is there anything I can do to relieve his discomfort?? I have made a doc appointment for him for this week, just hoping I could help him in the interim? TIA katty soory for spelling errors typing one handed

I used Dermeze or something like that on DS & it seemed to do the trick - tho he didn't have it that badly. what do you bath him in?? Maybe stear away from anything with chemicals in it?? Go for goats milk soap or something???

If it's really bothering him you go to the chemist and ask about steroid creams - they have ones that are really low % (I think the one I use on DS is 0.5%). They are safe to use on the face but not around the eyes. I only use them short term though when he really needs it as my skin is quite affected by years of steroid cream use for my eczema. Natural alternatives are widely available - go to the health food shop and they will have some. I use chickweed ointment that works really well when the flareups are minor. ETA: QV oil is amazing in the bath. |

in the meantime maybe get some sigmacort or similar cortizone cream. they are over the counter. get youself a referral to a skin specialist though, it was the best thing we did for L's skin.

For temporary relief we use Nourish eczema cream, Aveeno (oatmeal) cream and lucas paw paw ointment on the face/eyes etc. The only thing that work for DD when theres a flare up is prescribed creams from her Dr. Good luck matey.

THanks everyone He seems a bit better now the redness has gone down a bit, I gave him a wipe with a damp cloth and reapplied some cream and took him outside in the cool air, and it seems a bit better for now. I made curry today for dinner, so I wonder if me touching him made it flare up??? Anyway I have moved his doc appointment forward to tomorrow morning. Thanks so much for all your advice, much appreciated. : ) Mwah...
